SOMETHING YOU COUNTED ON DIDN'T HOLD
A job. A marriage. A church, maybe. Most people don't get over that. They just get quieter about what they'll put weight on next time.
THEY LOCKED THEM UP AND IT DIDN'T TAKE
In Jerusalem a handful of men wouldn't stop talking about Jesus. They got arrested. Got out. Got arrested again, whipped, and told to drop it. They were back the next morning.
One of the men who wanted them dead said it plain. If this is just people, it'll fall apart on its own. If it's God, you're not going to stop it.
THE PART NOBODY SCRUBBED
Then the trouble came from inside. The group grew fast and a set of widows quit getting fed. It wasn't a mixup. The Greek-speaking families got skipped and the local ones got looked after.
They wrote it down anyway. It's still in the book.
The fix wasn't an apology. They rebuilt the whole thing around the people getting skipped and put seven men on making sure the overlooked ate. One of them was Stephen. Not long after, he's standing in court while people lie about him under oath, and what got recorded about him is that his face was shining.
